Based in Alexandra - the gateway to the high country, you’ll join a small, supportive team responsible for the operation and maintenance of GVW’s water and sewer network assets and wastewater treatment plants across the Southern region.

About your new role...

As a Water Industry Operator, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, reliable water and wastewater services to the community.

 

This role is well suited to:

 

  • Someone eager to commence a long-term career in the water industry, or
  • An experience operator seeking further development and exposure

 

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

 

  • Assisting with preventative and routine maintenance activities
  • Operation and monitoring of existing water and wastewater treatment systems
  • Assisting with construction and installation of new works
  • Responding to customer enquiries and service requests
  • Completing required administrative and digital system tasks
  • Participating in emergency response and after-hours standby rosters as required

 

 

You will work both autonomously and as part of a small team, following operational procedures and safety guidelines at all times.

 

We are committed to developing our people and will support you to obtain water industry qualifications and ongoing training to help you succeed in the role.

About you...

We're looking for someone with:

  • Minimum Year 11 education or an appropriate trade qualification
  • MR Truck Licence (desirable)
  • Understanding of hydraulics and mechanical plant
  • Experience or interest in technical maintenance, including pipe and fitting installation and repair
  • Strong commitment to safety and OHS practices
  • Ability to participate in an on call /standby roster
  • Physically capable of undertaking operational and maintenance tasks
  • Experience in the plumbing, water, or allied service industry (not essential)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Committed to contributing positively to your team and the organisation
  • Comfortable using digital systems or willing to learn.
  • Organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities
  • Hands-on approach and enjoyment of outdoor work in all weather conditions
