About the Company

Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) provides quality water and wastewater services to 54 towns in North Central Victoria. Our core purpose is to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable water services to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

 

We are looking for a Water Treatment Operator to join the Southern Water Treatment team and play a role in ensuring the continuous supply of safe clean drinking water to our customers.

 

Perhaps you have some water industry experience, or you are someone who has the capability from existing relevant skills and experience to transition quickly into the role.

 

Based in Alexandra you will work with the Corporation’s Water Treatment Plants and facilities in our service area including Yea, Alexandra, Mansfield, Bonnie Doon and Marysville where you will be responsible for providing the community with safe and quality water.

 

Using modern technology and equipment to perform your role, you are competent in a range of plant and mechanical operations while demonstrating a strong focus on safety requirements.

 

We develop and train our water industry operatives and will support you to achieve many things including a water industry qualification that will assist you to undertake the role.

About your new role...

You will be part of a small team, in a great outdoor location, assisting with looking after the Corporation’s water treatment operations. Your daily tasks will include assisting with preventative and routine maintenance, operation of existing treatment systems, construction of new works, ensuring we meet expectations of delivering quality water services to our customers.

 

You will also have administrative tasks to complete regularly and be responsive to our customers queries and service complaints.

 

Sound information technology skills and/or the ability to learn new systems are required to assist in the operation of our treatment plants.

 

You might be an experienced operator looking for a change of scenery in which case we would love to have your skills and experience join the team. Alternatively, you might be interested in a new career and with an appetite to learn, positive attitude and ability to transfer existing skills to this role, you will learn to run our water treatment plants which provides the community with its potable water supply.

 

The work is mostly outdoors and requires practical, hands-on skills. Whilst there is no minimum qualification required you will need water industry training to work on water networks – and this will all be provided!

About you...

To be considered for this role you must have demonstrated some of the following:

 

    • Certificate 3 Water Industry Treatment is preferred, or the willingness to complete
    • Understanding of (or interested in learning) hydraulics and mechanical plant
    • Demonstrated commitment, ability and experience in resolving customer enquiries whilst providing a strong customer focus
    • Physically capable of undertaking tasks in relation to the operation and maintenance of water treatment assets
    • Ability to carry out mathematical calculations and interpret results
    • Ability to work on a roster for overtime and emergency call out work as required
    • Strong OHS commitment and focus
    • Committed to contributing positively to your team and the organisation
    • Ability to work effectively, or learn quickly, with computer-based technology
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong organisational, self-management and problem-solving skills
    • Adaptable, hands on and enjoy working outdoors and in all elements
